What we do

Giving grants

We invest for maximum impact

JEGIL Foundation provides early seed money to individuals and poor communities that propose innovative, creative solutions to the problems faced by underserved children, women and girls, low income earners, physically challenged and the deprived in our societies

But new programs are not the only path to greater economic security, freedom from violence, or health and care. Smart collaborations among individuals and communities, more direct links between complementary ideas, and more efficient infrastructure also serve more children, women and girls, low income earners, physically challenged and the deprived in our societies more comprehensively.

Organizing for change

To change women's lives, you have to change the social context: priorities, policies, resources, approaches.

This is how we do it:

We work from the ground up. Grant making at the grassroots level uncovers emerging needs, not just emerging organizations. Giving Councils and participatory grant making give the Foundation a presence in more lives and communities and also keep us connected to the realities of the lives of children, women, aged, low income earners and the physically challenged.

We encourage grantees to collaborate, to work together or share resources and expertise, either formally or informally. We use grant making to build collaborations among grantees whose work affects different parts of children and women, and the less privileged lives: an emergency housing provider, an employment training program, an agency that offers counseling services.

We collaborate, too: with other foundations and countries that are looking for in-depth, issue-specific expertise, or corporations working to develop a community impact strategy or philanthropic leadership.

Together, we believe these strategies are creating a new context for children and women, and the less privileged, aligning people, ideas, and resources for maximum impact on the issues that matter most.
